Can anyone be hypnotised? - The British Society of Clinical Hypnosis estimates that 85% of people will respond to hypnotherapy; mainly those who have some degree of confidence in the technique, want to change and believe that they themselves have some impact on that change process.
How will I feel during hypnosis? - Deeply relaxed, aware of your surroundings, in control, able to make decisions and take action at all times. You’ll be able to speak and move freely throughout.
Is what I say kept confidential? Yes, anything that you tell me will not be disclosed to anyone else. The only rare exceptions to this occurs if I am required by Law or where there is a serious risk of harm. All case notes are store securely and I am registered with the Information Commissioners Office to hold confidential data.
Is hypnotherapy safe? Yes, there are no known side-effects. Hypnosis is a natural state that most of us experience on a daily basis and no-one gets ‘stuck in a trance’.
How will I feel after a session? Some people feel calm, others energised. You should be fully able to drive, operate machinery and carry on with your day.
Will hypnosis make me say or do things that I don't want to do? No. Much of this misconception comes from stage hypnotism where people are sometimes made to 'act silly' or do things that seem out of character. There is usually much preparation by the hypnotist and selection of 'the compliant audience member' before and during the show even starts. With hypnotherapy, the focus is on helping you to make the beneficial changes you want, not on entertainment. No-one can be hypnotised against their will. You will never do or say anything during or after hypnosis that you would refuse to do during your daily life - only the beneficial changes you wish to make of course! Hypnosis is not a 'Truth Serum'. Throughout the process, I will always treat you with integrity and respect.
How many sessions will it take and how long do sessions last? Hypnotherapy can be very successful with just a few Treatment sessions - sometimes just one. The number of sessions will be discussed during our initial consultation once I have made a full Assessment. You can be assured that in accordance with my commitment to ethical practice, I will aim to end our hypnotherapy work at the earliest opportunity. Sessions usually last 50 minutes.
Do I need to make any special preparations before I come to see you? No. Clothing that you can feel relaxed in is best but it isn't essential so you can come in your work clothes if you wish. It is not advisable to attend hypnotherapy under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs.
Can I refer myself to you? Yes, just email or phone me. I am unable to take bookings from a relative or friend who may wish to help you. If you seek hypnotherapy for help with a medical issue, please make sure that your condition has been diagnosed by your medical practitioner and that you don’t stop taking or change any medication without discussion with them.
I’m still unsure about Hypnotherapy. Can I call you? Yes, I am happy to have an informal chat via email or phone. If I’m not available to answer your phone call, I have a confidential answer-machine on which you can leave a message should you wish.
